5 Ways to Market Your College Photography Business

by Bobbin & Co

Photography in college isn’t just fun—it can be a legit way to make money, build a portfolio, and grow your network. Here’s how I did it and how you can, too.

Bobbin’s Quick Tips:

  • Target the theatre department – Actors need headshots constantly. Theatre is your goldmine.

  • Reach out to clubs and events – Most student orgs have zero clue how to hire a photographer. Volunteer to help and get referrals.

  • LinkedIn for college – Departments love professional-looking portraits of students, faculty, and staff for their profiles.

  • Leverage social media – Instagram and TikTok are perfect for showcasing your photos, tutorials, or before/after edits. Tag the school and relevant accounts for discoverability.

  • Offer mini-sessions – Quick, affordable headshots on campus, maybe a pop-up at a scenic location. People love convenience and it’s easy money with minimal setup.
